Getting here is part of it
Four hours by train, ninety minutes by road, and the last eight kilometres in the dark. Nobody has ever complained about the arrival.
Speak to someone who is actually here.
The telephone is answered in the front hall of the house, between seven in the morning and ten at night, by whoever is nearest to it.
Tell us when, and roughly what for.
We do not run an instant booking engine. Every stay is arranged by hand, because matching a person to the right room takes a short conversation and a calendar generally cannot manage it.
Four ways in, and one of them is better than the others.
- 01
By train
To Aldermere Halt, four hours from the capital with one change at Rennhof. The last service arrives at 16:40. We meet every train.
- 02
By road
Ninety minutes from the motorway on a single valley road. Winter tyres are required from November to April, and the last eight kilometres are unlit.
- 03
By air
Nearest airport is two and a half hours away. We can arrange a car, though the train is better and you will see more of the approach.
- 04
On foot
Two long-distance paths cross the estate. Walkers arriving on foot are given the drying room and a pot of something hot, whatever the hour.
